The Bachelor of Arts in Education, Communities and Organizations major provides students with a solid foundation in learning theory, human development, equity studies, organizational theory and community-based research and practice. Through elective courses, students will build on this knowledge to explore diverse areas of study. All students complete a community-based capstone internship.

Education, Communities and Organizations is a capacity-constrained major. An additional application is required after you enroll at the UW, and admission may be competitive. Visit the department website for more information.

An application for general admission to the UW is required for all transfer students. UW accepts general applications for Autumn and Winter with some select majors allowing applications in Spring. Review your intended major’s website for information about which quarters it is open for admission.

Department admission information

This major is capacity-constrained. Completion of prerequisites does not guarantee admission.

Admission is based on the following criteria:

  • Completion of 45 credits at UW or prior transfer coursework already assessed by the UW Admissions Office. Credits in progress are counted toward the required 45.
  • EDUC 280 (minimum 2.0 grade)
  • English composition course (minimum 2.50 grade)
  • Students may submit an application while enrolled in EDUC 280 and/or English composition course. If all other criteria are met students will be conditionally admitted, pending final grade.
  • 2.50 minimum overall GPA
  • Admission essays (4, 250 word prompts)
